Manifesto

Shortley is a small workshop of ideas — a publication, a portfolio of tools, and a slowly growing archive of essays.

The writing is about learning, economics, and strategy — three things that turn out to be the same question, viewed from different angles. The tools are attempts to answer it.

It is built by a small group of friends and family with too many opinions and not enough patience for the way things are.

Principle 01
Build, don't just write.
Ideas are cheap. The interesting test of one is whether it survives contact with the real world.
Principle 02
Take the long view.
Most things worth doing don't pay off this quarter, or this year. We're in no hurry.
Principle 03
Question the defaults.
Most systems were designed for somebody — usually not the person using them. Worth asking who.
